Cleanweb Hackathon in Boston May 2012

This past weekend, Cleanweb Hackathon hosted its third event. The first two, San Francisco and New York, were both huge successes so there were big expectations for Boston. The event included 16 teams with close to 80 hackers. Genability was proud to be a sponsor of the event along with several others including EnerNOC, Retroficiency and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
There were a lot of great apps, but here’s a list of our favorites:
Divya Energy provides savings calculations for solar installations. The team calls itself the “Lending Tree for Solar” and generates solar awareness through Green Button data. The Divya team received 3rd place and got $2,500.
Power Ally helps residential consumers find the right electricity plan for them. Users can choose the criteria that matters most to them, whether it’s savings, renewable energy or both.
The crowd favorite and overall winner of the $11,000 grand prize went to Michael Tyson’s Punch House. The site allows users to upload their Green Button data and compete against other residents in an arcade format. Residents can challenge rematches and move up the leader board based on their electricity consumption.
If you missed out on this event, not to worry, there are several Cleanweb Hackathons coming up over the next few months. Boulder is just around the corner and there are some great sponsors signed up. Full events and cities can be found on the Cleanweb site.
